SMM, Sept. 27 / PRNewswire-FirstCall-Asianet /-OM Holdings, listed on the Australian Stock Exchange, recovered the body of its employee Craig Butler after a wall collapsed at the Bootu Creek Manganese Mine in the Northern Territory on Aug. 24. OM said on Thursday that, Bootu Creek's mining operations were still suspended and that it hoped to resume open-pit mining in phases by the end of October, but would complete the report of independent geotechnical engineers to facilitate reapproval.

Bootu Creek's processing business resumed on August 25, and existing inventory materials will be processed through heavy medium separation plants and secondary processing plants, resulting in marketable low-grade manganese products. In addition to the original production plan, it is expected that about 110000 tons of low-grade products will be produced in stock, although production will be reduced due to operational constraints.

OM said the processing of low-grade stocks would last for two months, noting that the tailings reprocessing plant would not be fully operational as originally predicted until mining operations resumed. OM expects production to reach 103,000 tons in the third quarter, while production in the fourth quarter will depend on the availability of higher grades of ore. At the same time, the Australian Stock Exchange-listed company noted that its smelting division had not been affected by the mine shutdown and that other sources of manganese ore had been used as alternatives to ensure continuity in manganese alloy production.
